Moving-estimate hidden fees and missing terms to review

A low total can exclude services that appear later. Review the inventory, access conditions, delivery terms, and change process—not only the quoted price.

Common services that may be excluded

  • Packing materials and labor
  • Stairs, elevators, or long carries
  • Shuttle service when a large truck cannot access the property
  • Storage, redelivery, or waiting time
  • Bulky-item handling, disassembly, or reassembly
  • Additional stops or changed pickup and delivery details
02

Why inventory and access details matter

The estimate depends on the shipment and services described. Missing boxes, furniture, appliances, stairs, parking restrictions, or building requirements can change the scope.

Send corrections before loading and request a revised written estimate. Do not rely on a verbal statement that a service is “included.”

03

Binding and non-binding price changes

A non-binding estimate is an approximation and may change with actual weight or services. A binding estimate generally covers the listed inventory and services, but additional requested work can still affect the amount. Ask for the maximum amount due at delivery and every condition that could change it.

04

A practical comparison checklist

  1. Compare the same inventory across quotes.
  2. Confirm the estimate type.
  3. List every access and packing condition.
  4. Identify included and excluded services.
  5. Request the added-charge process in writing.
  6. Keep every revision and signed change.
