Moving deposits and payment methods: what to verify

Before paying, understand the deposit amount, recipient, refund policy, timing, and whether the payment can be disputed.

01

Read the complete payment term

A deposit should never be evaluated by percentage alone. Read the amount together with the due date, accepted payment method, cancellation deadline, refund conditions, and company receiving the funds.

Confirm that the payee matches the mover or disclosed broker. A different personal or business name deserves an explanation in writing.

02

Compare payment risk

  • Credit cards may offer a dispute process, subject to the issuer’s rules.
  • Cash, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, and some payment apps can be difficult to reverse.
  • A receipt should identify the company, amount, date, purpose, and remaining balance.
  • Verbal refund promises should be added to the written agreement.
03

Questions to send the mover

  1. Is the deposit refundable, and until what exact date?
  2. Which company receives the payment?
  3. What happens if you cannot assign a carrier or meet the pickup window?
  4. Can I pay by credit card?
  5. What exact amount will remain due at pickup and delivery?
04
